Artist of the Week: Hayley Kiyoko

The mutli-talented Hayley Kiyoko, born Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft, started her music career in 2007, when she was approached to join all-girl singing and dancing group The Stunners. Their sound is a blend of pop and R&B. The group signed to Colombia Records and later Universal Republic Records, and released an EP, five singles, and four music videos. When the group split in 2011, Kiyoko went on to play Stella Yamada in the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth.

In 2013 she and UK producer and songwriter James Flannigan turned her parent’s garage into a makeshift studio and spent two intense weeks writing and recording her first solo EP A Belle to Remember. In 2015 her EP This Side of Paradise was released. There are five pop, electronic, and alternative influenced songs. She talks about the title This Side of Paradise, which is based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald book of the same name, on her website,

“I loved the whole notion it implied. It’s my point-of-view though on what paradise can be.” She further describes the idea behind her EP as a “[…] safe zone. It’s a place to dream and fantasize and make yourself feel fulfilled.”

The music video for her song “Girls Like Girls” was released on June 24 2015, which Kiyoko co-directed. Her most recent music video “Cliffs Edge”, was released November 4th of that year, which she fully directed. Currently, she is cast as Raven Ramirez on CSI: Cyber and is planning an EP Tour for This Side of Paradise!
